Ama Dablam, popularly known as the Matterhorn of the Himalaya is one of the most popular mountain expeditions in the Everest region. The epic ice coated granite pyramid of Ama Dablam towers over trekkers en route to Everest Base Camp, sparking the dream to reach its summit. The word Ama Dablam translates to Mothers Jewel Box. The King of Nepal nearly imprisoned Edmund Hillary for climbing the sacred Ama Dablam without permission.
Our expedition begins via the south west ridge which is the route followed by Bishop (US), Ward (UK), and Gill (NZ) in the first ascent of the mountain. Three camps will lead our way to the summit. The start of the climb is moderate up to the Camp 1, however, becomes more challenging up along the narrow granite ridge. The more challenging and technical part of the climb is from Camp 2 and from Camp 3 where we traverse around the hanging glacier around Ama Dablam to finally scale the summit. This summit climb is more technical than other expeditions and previous rock climbing and ice climbing experience is highly recommended.
