Our Everest Base Camp-Cho La Pass-Gokyo Ri trekking route includes a trip to the lap of Nepal's Everest Base Camp. For trekkers who want to go a little bit beyond the Everest Base Camp Trek, this route is perfect for you. The trail passes through Lukla, Phakding, Namche bazaar, Dole, Machhermo, Gokyo, and Thaknak, and then crosses the Cho La Pass to join the usual route of the Everest Base Camp Trek. On those first days, you will find more solitude and beautiful desolation than on the EBC Trek. Passing through the villages, you will enjoy and observe the traditional Sherpa culture, customs, and rituals, as well as the general hospitality.
You’ll also get chances to learn about Tibetan Buddhism as you visit gompas and enjoy the various monuments along the trail. Gokyo Valley is beautifully located near Gokyo Lake. The attractions on our day hike to Gokyo Ri include the Everest Himalayan Panorama, the five Gokyo lakes, and Ngozumba Glacier. Kalapatthar is another highlight of the trek, in which we get a 360-degree panorama of the Everest region peaks. It is also the literal high point of our trek. After the trail reaches Kalapatthar, we begin the trek down to Lukla and fly back to Kathmandu.
When is the best time to trek to Everest Base Camp and Goyo Lake?
Trekking is possible throughout the year, but spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) provide the best weather. During the spring, there is a bit more colour and the rhododendrons are blooming, and in the autumn months, the skies are generally clearer. The Everest Base Camp-Cho La Pass-Gokyo Ri Trek requires fitness and acclimatization to avoid acute mountain sickness. Rugged Trails Nepal arranges the trek with complete management. What makes this tour very interesting
This semi-challenging trek is a perfect opportunity to test your personal limits and achieve true Himalayan heights. Following a strategic clockwise route, this itinerary ensures the magnificent, towering mountains are always directly in front of you, meaning you never have to turn around to catch the view.
The route is expertly designed for safety: conquering Gokyo Ri first serves as a superior acclimatization point, making the subsequent crossing of the Cho La Pass (and reaching Everest Base Camp) significantly easier. This approach ensures you are well-adjusted before tackling the highest points. The consensus among trekkers holds that the view from Gokyo Ri is the best viewpoint in the entire Khumbu Everest region, offering an unforgettable spectacle.
If your goal is the classic Everest Base Camp experience with the added thrill of successfully mastering at least one high pass, this carefully paced and rewarding itinerary is the ideal choice.

Wake Up early in the morning to take a flight to Lukla, you will receive a packed breakfast. From the Kathmandu domestic airport, we will take a 35- to 40-minute flight to Lukla (9,186 feet). Enjoy one of the most beautiful air routes in the world on a hillside surrounded by mountainous peaks. We will meet the rest of our crew members at the Lukla airport, a gateway destination from where our trek begins. We took a gentle walk to Phakding village, passing through Chaurikharkha village, Mt Khumbila, and the monastery.
During the peak seasons (October-November and April-May), flights to Lukla are typically operated from Manthali (Ramechhap) Airport. This diversion requires a significantly different schedule: the drive from Kathmandu to Manthali starts very early, often around 2:00 AM, to ensure you reach the airport in time for the morning flights. The drive covers approximately 130–135 km and generally takes 4 to 5 hours. - Day: 3
Phakding Namche Bazaar.
This is the day that you hear the most is the trek into Namche Bazaar, walking through a beautiful pine forest Dudh Koshi River and go on passing Chumoa to Monjo, and the entrance to Everest National Park. Then after crossing a suspension bridge, we pass Jorsale village and walk alongside the Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi rivers. The path to Namche is very well-traveled so you'll continually come across locals, other tourists and then continue traffic of Yaks and porter. It is infamous for its long consistent steep inclines uphill brings us to the prime heartland of Sherpa village - Namche Bazaar. At one hour’s distance to reaching Namche Bazaar, we can view the sights of Mt. Everest and Mt. Lhotse. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.
- Day: 4
Acclimatization Day - Namche Bazaar.
There are plenty of things to do around Namche Bazaar, we wake up to another spectacular morning and view from our room and sun rose of the breathtaking mountains. Let us make you clear something up that is a big misunderstanding about the Acclimatization day. Acclimatization day is not a rest day, it is something completely different so don’t think that after the huge climb of getting into Namche Bazaar you’ll spend today lazing around the lodges or shopping in local stores. Our team will take you to explore the real charm of Namche Bazaar. So after breakfast, we will start the gentle hike up to Everest view hotel where we can see the views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kongde and so on. Day hike up to 3,700 m (12,139 ft)
- Day: 5
Namche Bazaar Trek to Dole.
After breakfast, we ascend to Kyanjuma and climb up further to Chipcho. Then the trail splits and we take the route via Mong and Phortse Tenga and walk gradually to Dole through rhododendron forests. It is an easy walk today, so we can take it easy. Overnight at lodge.

We head to the riverbank before climbing onto the moraine of the Ngazumpa Glacier on a steep trail. Upon crossing a bridge over a stream, the trail follows the valley past the first lake, known as Longpongo. At the sight of the second lake, Taboche Tsho, we become mesmerized by the sheer beauty of the turquoise waters. A little further, we reach the third lake. Gokyo village stands by the third lake with Cho Oyu in the background. The whole scene in jaw-dropping. The trail from Phedi climbs through a ravine on a rocky trail. While trekking on the side of a frozen lake, we reach the top of the pass. The pyramid-like Ama Dablam presides over a range of mountains on the south. We pass through some crevasses before we reach Dzongla Village. The village provides great views of Cholatse, Ama Dablam, Lobuche mountains along with the Pheriche Village far below.

The sunset view of Mt. Nuptse in the evening is marvelous. Overnight at guest house.

Great Guides For Our Everest 3 Passes Trek
- Harrie Van de Linde, AustraliaGreat small trekking company with lots of knowledge about the area. Indra and Mekraj were great guides for our 3 passes trek for 14 days. They have done it many times before, so they know the lodges and where the great food is. We went in the off-season (Nov–Dec), so lots of lodges were very quiet and felt homely.
Most of our group used porters for some of our gear, which helped a lot during the strenuous days of the trip.
Overall, I would recommend a company like this over the bigger groups such as Intreped, as it can be altered as you go for your own pace and interests rather than a very set route and schedule.Solo Trekking In the Himalaya Everest Three Passes
- Georgia, AustriaThank you, Rugged Trails, for helping me to feel every emotion a human being has ever felt and for locating all the hiking supplies—even shoes—at the last minute in Kathmandu. Thank you, Nirajan, Indra, Harka, and all the lovely people of Nepal, for making it a perfectly organized and super-safe adventure. Thank you for putting up with all my feelings and random requests for ginger-lemon tea.

Short Everest View Trek and Kathmandu
- Mariana, ColombiaI was traveling as a solo woman and Rugged Trails Nepal organized my trekking trip to Tengboche (short Everest view trek) and a couple of city tours in Kathmandu. Indra was my guide during my trekking trip and he was the most helpful and nice person. Nirajan made my travel experience a really good one and help me with everything that I asked for. I completely recommend this agency for any trekking trip in the Himalayas and for a solo woman.
