Shivapuri National park is one of the closest National Parks to Kathmandu, making it a popular day hike for our clients. Shivapuri offers superb Himalayan views of Langtang Himalayan views, Rolwaling Himalayan views, Kathmandu valley view, Budhanilkantha Temple, and Nagi Gompa. Shivapuri is situated at an elevation of 2563m and north of Kathmandu is the second highest hill in Kathmandu valley.
We begin our hike driving 30 minutes from Kathmandu to Muhan Pokhari. The trail goes along the rugged but drivable road through pine and cherry forest up to Nagi Gompa within one and half hours, where a nunnery monastery is located. The trail then travels steeply uphill through the oak, rhododendron and bamboo forest. From here you can enjoy the beauty of the snowy Himalayas such as Ganesh Himal, Langtang-Lirung, Dorji Lhakpa. From here, we return downhill to Budhanilkantha before returning back to Kathmandu by our private vehicle.
