The honey harvesting is one of the challenging ancient activities in Nepal. The wild honey hunting is still practiced in a rural part of Nepal. Honey harvesting is quite popular near Besisahar in the Annapurna region trekking trail. Recently, The Last Honey Hunter documentary was filmed by Renan Ozturk. Renan is a filmmaker and climber. Renan and Mark Synnott visit Nepal with National Geographic to shoot the traditional honey harvest in the Hongu River Valley below the Khumbu region.
The Last Honey Hunter trail is another great adventure trail in Nepal beyond Mt. Everest and other giant mountains. Rugged Trails Nepal thought this honey hunter trail could be an exciting trip below the Khumbu region in Makalu Barun National Park. The place where The Last Honey Hunter was filmed is a remote mountain village. This trail is about 9 days from Kathmandu to Kathmandu by scenic drive. On this trail, you will see Mt. Everest, Mt. Thamserku, Kongde Peak, and Mera Peak.
Let's see the ancient honey harvesting place and the leading person, Mauli Dhan Rai (watch the movie and images of him). To get to this village, we can fly to Lukla and continue our trek, or while doing the Everest Base Camp Trek, we can add a few more days to explore this adventurous place. The ancient honey hunters use traditional bamboo ropes on hundreds of feet-high cliffs.
