Ghorepani Poon Hill is situated in the Annapurna Conservation Area Project. This 5-day Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is the easiest and most popular trekking route in the Nepal Himalayas for beginners. Trekkers walk through the oak forest full of birds, green hills, and mixed mountain valleys. The trekkers do not have any risk of getting altitude sickness while doing Ghorepani trekking in the Annapurna region. The Poon Hill Trek is one of the best-selling short treks in Pokhara. This trek is popular because of the great views and because it can be done in a short time. Starting from Tikhedhunga, the Ghorepani trek follows the ridge of the beautiful Modi Khola. Then it crosses the Gurung villages and rice fields. It is a steep climb to Ulleri from Tikhedhunga, and it walks through the rhododendron and oak forest to Ghorepani.

The early morning hike up to Poon Hill is wonderful, and you can see the Himalayan views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Nilgiri, Fishtail, Manaslu, Lamjung, Chulu Peak, and the beautiful green hill vistas of the surrounding areas. Hike Poonhill early in the morning, then head to Tadapani again through the rhododendron forest. If you plan to trek in Ghorepani in the spring, you do not want to return to anywhere and desire to stay longer. The whole forest becomes colorful with rhododendron flowers. Ghandruk, another beautiful village, is also known as the village of Gurkhas. The costumes and culture of the local people are fabulous. Then the trip drives to Pokhara via Nayapul.

Rhododendron Photography Trek

If you are interested in a photography trek to Poonhill, then the Rugged Trails Nepal team will arrange a special private and group photography trek to Poonhill. The end of February to the end of March is the best time to capture the blooming flowers and mountains. We have professional photographer guides for this kind of event, and we suggest booking in advance for it.

Food and Accommodation During the Ghorepani Trek

  • Simply choose the food you want from the menu, and you can get everything from normal Nepalese dishes to Western dishes.
  • You will get a private room with an attached bathroom if you book in advance, but at Tadapani, it's not possible to get the attached room.

Day 1

Pokhara Drive to Tikhedhunga and trek to Banthanti Village.

Our adventure unfolds with a scenic one-and-a-half-hour drive from bustling Pokhara to the quaint village of Tikhedhunga. This 28.4-kilometer journey sets the stage for our five day Ghorepani trek through the stunning Annapurna region.

First, we'll stop in Nayapul to obtain the necessary permits from the Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN) and the Annapurna Conservation Area Project. From Tikhedhunga, the trail ascends steeply towards Ulleri, a charming Gurung village nestled amidst the breathtaking scenery of Annapurna South and Mt. Hiunchuli. The initial climb may be challenging, requiring a steady ascent over numerous stone steps.

Reaching Ulleri, we'll be rewarded with panoramic views and the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the local culture. The trail then continues through lush green fields, traversing ancient rhododendron and oak forests. We'll pause for a well-deserved lunch and a short rest at Nangethanti, enjoying the tranquility of the surrounding nature.

Refreshed, we'll embark on the final leg of our journey for the day, walking through the enchanting Banthanti forest. As evening descends, we'll arrive at our accommodation.

Pickup time is at 8:30 in the morning from your hotel. Our guide will come to your hotel with the vehicle.
