Luxury Ghorepani Ghandruk trek? Yes, you heard it correctly: The 4-day Ghorepani Poon Hill trek with Ghandruk Village is one of the most beautiful and popular trekking routes in Annapurna. This trekking plan follows the same route as other standard trekking packages but adds premium luxury services during the journey. This is a beginner-friendly luxury Nepal trekking experience in the Annapurna foothills. The rugged mountain journey meets unparalleled luxury through the heart of the Annapurna region. You won't need to worry about water, tea, showers, Wi-Fi, or anything that generally isn't covered in standard and budget trip plans, as these are included.

The Ghorepani to Ghandruk trek is one of the best-selling trekking routes from Pokhara. If you are looking for a short and enjoyable trekking package in the Himalayas, the Ghorepani Poon Hill with Ghandruk Village trek is a perfect holiday choice. Pokhara is easily accessible from Kathmandu by road, taking about 4 to 6 hours, and by air, which takes approximately 25 minutes; therefore, this trek can certainly be done from Kathmandu as well. The standard Ghorepani trekking itinerary starts from Pokhara, but we would be happy to arrange flight tickets or private vehicle transfers for you. The luxury Ghorepani Poon Hill Ghandruk trek prioritizes comfort, exclusivity, and highly experienced mountain guides.

The trek offers beautiful panoramic views of the Annapurna range, Mt. Dhaulagiri, Fishtail (Machhapuchhre), and many other Himalayan peaks. If you're expecting to see Mount Everest from this route, please note that Everest and other eastern Khumbu ranges are not visible.

While the trek can be extended further to Annapurna Base Camp, Mardi Himal, or Khopra Danda, other trails may not maintain the same level of luxury. On this Ghorepani Ghandruk luxury trek, your first night in Ghorepani will be in a room with an attached bathroom, though there will be no heating inside the room. You can expect clean blankets, pillows, and comfortable beds, but heating in the rooms in Ghorepani and Tadapani villages is not standard. The second night in Tadapani generally does not offer attached bathrooms in any guesthouses; however, shared toilets are available inside the building. The last night in Ghandruk provides proper luxury amenities, including room heating.

Food during the trek is delicious, with a variety of options ranging from local Nepali meals to Western dishes, and drinking water is safe. The Gurung people from this area are friendly and culturally rich, especially in Ghandruk Village, where you'll be able to observe their culture and lifestyle and, if you're fortunate, experience their festival events.

What is the difficulty level of the trek? Is the trek suitable for beginners over 60 years old?

This trek consists of moderately easy routes that can be comfortably completed by seniors. It's important to understand that Nepal is not flat, and ascending and descending are very common. The maximum elevation is 3210 meters at Poon Hill, just above Ghorepani, and it takes approximately 45 minutes to reach Poon Hill from Ghorepani. The total distance of the 4 days ghorepani trek is about 35 km, with an average walking distance of 5 to 10 km per day. There is no altitude sickness risk on this trekking route, so lace up your boots and get ready for this beautiful trek.

What is the best time of year to do this luxury Ghorepani trek?

The most common answer is the same as what every trekking company and travel blog mentions: spring and autumn are the best times to trek in Ghorepani Poon Hill. Spring is considered the most beautiful time of the year to trek the Ghorepani Poon Hill route because of the rhododendron blooms. Autumn is another beautiful time, offering clear skies and a different kind of festive vibrancy throughout the journey. Winter is also a great time, with snow-covered landscapes that are still trek-able. Monsoon season is also excellent, providing lush greenery, waterfalls, wildflowers, and beautiful layered landscapes for photography, along with snow-capped peaks. Ultimately, the best time depends on your holiday schedule and personal preferences. Therefore, we would like to welcome everyone, as the Ghorepani trek is perfect all year round.

From the top of Poon Hill, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views. Watch the sun illuminate the majestic peaks of Mount Fishtail, the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, and Tukuche Peak, all set against a backdrop of stunning landscapes.

After enjoying the view, you'll hike back down to Ghorepani for a well-deserved breakfast. Following your meal, the trek continues toward Tadapani. The path starts with a slight uphill climb to Deurali, after which it becomes relatively flat and then descends. The final stretch to Tadapani is another uphill section that takes about 45 minutes to an hour. Upon reaching Tadapani, you can relax and enjoy the "golden view" of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Fishtail from the village.

Equipment List

Because the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek stays under 3,300 meters, you do not need heavy mountaineering equipment. Most items—such as lightweight down jackets, sleeping bag liners, trekking poles, sun hats, and water purification tablets—can be easily bought or rented in Kathmandu (Thamel) or Pokhara (Lakeside). Rental shops charge around $1 to $2 USD per day for sleeping bags or mid-weight down jackets. However, you should bring broken-in hiking shoes or boots from home to avoid blisters on the thousands of stone steps along the route.

Upper Body Layers
  •
  • 2–3 Moisture-wicking t-shirts: Synthetic or Merino wool (short-sleeve and long-sleeve).
  • 1 Lightweight fleece jacket or pullover: For cool mornings and evenings at teahouses.
  • 1 Mid-weight down jacket: Essential for freezing early mornings at Poon Hill (3,210 m) and chilly nights in Ghorepani.
  • 1 Waterproof/windproof rain jacket: Breathable hard-shell or lightweight poncho (sudden rain is common in the Annapurna foothills).
  •
Lower Body Layers
  •
  • 1–2 Pairs of quick-dry trekking pants: Zip-off pants work well, as lower elevations can get warm during the day.
  • 1 Pair of thermal leggings / Base layer: Useful for sleeping and for the early morning climb to Poon Hill.
  • 1 Pair of lightweight waterproof rain pants: To protect against unexpected rain showers.
  •
Footwear & Accessories
  •
  • Broken-in hiking shoes or light boots: Sturdy trail runners or ankle-support boots (must be broken-in).
  • Sandals or slip-on shoes: For relaxing in teahouses after a day of trekking.
  • 3–4 Pairs of trekking socks: Wool or synthetic moisture-wicking socks, plus 1 pair of thin liner socks.
  • Gloves: 1 pair of lightweight fleece or wind-resistant gloves for cold mornings.
  • Knee support sleeves: Highly recommended for this specific trek to reduce knee strain on the steep stone staircases down from Ulleri and Tadapani.
  •
Head & Sun Protection
  •
  • Wide-brim sun hat or baseball cap: Essential for warm, sunny valley walks.
  • Warm beanie / woollen hat: Needed for cold mornings, especially the early 4:30 AM hike up to Poon Hill for sunrise.
  • UV Sunglasses: Protects eyes from glare at viewpoints.
  • Lightweight neck gaiter/buff: Protects your neck and face from sun and dust on dirt trails.
  •
Personal & Medical Kits
  •
  • Basic First Aid Kit: Blister plasters (moleskin), athletic tape, band-aids, and antiseptic cream.
  • Personal Medications: Paracetamol/Ibuprofen, anti-diarrheal tablets (Imodium), rehydration salts, and basic cold/flu medication.
  • Sunscreen & Lip Balm: High SPF sunscreen (30+) and SPF lip balm.
  • Water Purification: Water purification tablets (Aquatabs/Iodine) or a UV steriliser (SteriPEN).
  • Toiletries: Biodegradable soap/shampoo, travel towel, wet wipes, hand sanitiser, and toilet paper.
  •
Travel Documents
  •
  • Passport: Original passport plus 2 paper photocopies.
  • Trekking Permits: Rugged Trails Team will handle this.
  • Travel Insurance: Policy details covering medical emergencies and trekking up to 3,500 meters.
  • Nepalese Cash (NPR): Cash for personal drinks, snacks.

  • Duffle bag or kit bag: Provided by Rugged Trails Nepal.
  • Rain cover: Waterproof cover for your daypack.
  • Trekking Poles: Crucial for this trek to manage the thousands of stone steps up to Ghorepani and down to Ghandruk.
  • Headlamp: Essential for the early morning pre-dawn hike to Poon Hill, as well as teahouse use at night.
  • Lightweight sleeping bag or silk liner: Teahouses provide blankets, but a lightweight bag (rated to 0°C to -5°C) or silk liner ensures cleanliness and extra warmth.
