Rara Lake Trek Highlights

  • This area lies on the rollicking Great Himalayan Trail Exploring the world's longest trekking trail.
  • Explore Nepal's largest lake and take this opportunity to practice yoga at the same time.
  • Rara Lake is surprisingly untouched by commercial tourism.
  • The lake has amazing reflections of surrounding snow-capped mountains.
  • Nepalese proudly call Rara Lake the Queen of Lakes and a heaven on earth.
  • It is home to amazing wildlife and birds and is home to the rare red panda.
  • Enjoy pristine forests and enchanting lakes and witness the rustic life of the locals.

The high-altitude paradise destination of Rara Lake trekking is one of the more popular trekking routes in Nepal, which is blanketed by a serenity you can find nowhere else on Earth. Surrounded by Rara National Park, one of the country's finest national parks, this is as close to utopia as you're going to get. This park is one of the best places in Nepal to visit and enjoy some of its amazing wildlife, from musk deer, leopards, gorals, tahr, Himalayan black bears, and the rare red panda, amongst other things.

RARA LAKE IS A SHIMMERING BLUE JEWEL SET IN A RING OF SNOWY PEAKS.
BILL GREER (GORP FOUNDER)

The Rara Lake is the centerpiece of the Rara National Park, lies at an altitude of 2,990 m (9,810 ft) above sea level, and is also an ideal location for the bird watcher. Nepal's largest lake, Rara Lake, is 5 km long and 3 km wide, with a maximum depth of 167 m. The area around the lake itself is a heaven on earth. Its high-altitude views, crystal-clear water with breathtaking reflections of the Himalayan mountain ranges cast off from it, surrounding juniper forest, and the nearby Cypress Lake are an ideal spiritual getaway for locals and foreigners looking to unplug themselves away from the pressures of modern-day life. It's as close to a fairy tale as one can get here in Nepal.
